Reverse Implied Odds

The hidden cost of making a hand that's still second-best. Where money quietly disappears.

Formula

No clean formula — judgment-based.
Key question: "If I hit my hand, can I still lose more?"

Explanation

Reverse implied odds are the OPPOSITE of implied odds. You sometimes pay off more when your draw hits because your "made hand" is dominated. Classic example: drawing to top pair with weak kicker — when you hit, an opponent with top pair better kicker bleeds you. Recognize these spots and fold marginal draws against strong opponents.

Example

Setup

You have K7 offsuit on a K-9-3 flop. You bet, tight opponent calls.

Calculation

  1. You "hit" top pair but with a 7 kicker
  2. Tight player calling probably has K-something with a better kicker (KQ, KJ, KT)
  3. On turn and river, your "made hand" pays off bigger bets
  4. You're drawing dead against their range

Conclusion

K-rag plays look like winners but bleed money against tight ranges. This is reverse implied odds in action.
